We’re pleased to introduce April Mazza, our first Advisor for Youth and School Library Services.  She started her position on December 9 and looks forward to engaging school and children’s library members to develop responsive MLS services.

AM_medium_500April began her library career creating and teaching formal library skills instruction for students from kindergarten through grade five. She led a busy children’s department at Wayland’s public library before a transition to the MA Board of Library Commissioners, where she served as Reference Librarian and Education Specialist.

April reviews for Horn Book Guide and Kirkus. Previously she was a youth audio/visual reviewer for School Library Journal.  She participates actively in ALA, NELA, and MLA, and is a frequent conference presenter.  She holds a Master of Science in Library Science with a focus on school libraries from Simmons College.

April’s deep commitment to children’s literature and to children will bring a new dimension to MLS. She would love to hear from the school and children’s services community.  You can reach her at april@masslibsystem.org.
