Western Massachusetts Regional Library System, Inc., Executive Board
Public Meeting Notice – September 21, 2015 1-2pm at
4 Sandy Lane, Whately, Massachusetts (MLS-Whately)

Dear Massachusetts Library System Members,

I am writing with notice of a public meeting of the Executive Board of the Western Massachusetts Regional Library System (WMRLS) at 1:00-2:00 PM on September 21, 2015 at 4 Sandy Lane in Whately, Massachusetts.

The corporation has signed a purchase and sale agreement with the Town of Whately to sell the facility at 4 Sandy Lane and the transaction is proceeding. We expect to close in early October. This is a short sale and the Corporation is requesting substantial debt forgiveness. In light of this debt forgiveness, the mortgage holder, the USDA, expects the Corporation to be dissolved after the sale.

The agenda for the WMRLS Executive Board meeting includes an action item to dissolve the corporation subsequent to the sale of the property and debt forgiveness in order to meet the expectations of the USDA.

The Massachusetts Library System will retain a Western Massachusetts office. A leaseback provision in the sale will allow some MLS staff to remain in-place for up to three months to give us sufficient time to find a suitable replacement office/training facility in Western Massachusetts. We are actively seeking alternative locations in Western Massachusetts along the I-91 corridor between Greenfield and Springfield. This will allow MLS to reduce operating costs and eliminate ongoing facility management responsibilities to care for this large facility. Newly available funds will be used to provide services to members. We will invite all members to an open house when the new MLS Western Office is ready.

The Town of Whately plans to use the facility as Town Hall and headquarters for a new regional EMS service.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
