The Massachusetts Library System (MLS) today announced the members of the MLS Executive Director Search Committee that will assist with the hiring of the next Executive Director of the MLS. The search commenced after Gregory Pronevitz announced his impending retirement in July 2018. He has been the Massachusetts Library System founding Executive Director since July 2010 and previously worked as the Executive Director of the Northeast MA Regional Library System.

The next Executive Director of MLS will be tasked with completing the goals of the 2017-2019 Strategic Plan developed under Pronevitz. Additionally, the next Executive Director will need knowledge of the budget that funds MLS programs and services, as well as federal budget implications. The next Executive Director will need to work closely with MLS partner organizations, the Massachusetts library community, as well as with our vendors.

Search Committee Chair, Melinda Webster Loof shares: “The Massachusetts Library System has a long history of providing exemplary and unique services to all types of libraries throughout the Commonwealth. I look forward to welcoming candidates who are passionate about resource sharing, who will be making connections with our members and who are committed to ongoing professional learning.”

The Search Committee’s duties will include reviewing candidate’s applications, conducting preliminary interviews, and selecting finalists to be presented to the Executive Board. After the committee completes its work, the MLS Executive Board will hold interviews of the finalists recommended to them at an open meeting and will select the new executive director based on those interviews. The expectation is to have a new Executive Director of the Massachusetts Library System in place by July 1, 2018.

The committee membership is made up of experienced library professionals from member libraries. The MLS Search Committee members are:
