We’re seeking volunteers to serve on our Executive Board.

Board members represent member libraries: academic, special, school, and public libraries from all parts of the Commonwealth. We have three vacancies coming up for the upcoming term. New board members will be elected for three-year terms, beginning January 2020. The slate will also include 2 existing board members, who are running for a second term. The Council of Members at its November 2019 annual meeting will approve a slate of candidates and officers.

The three new openings are to replace two academic libraries and one public library representatives. Recently we’ve had openings in the Boston and Southeast areas of MA, but all applications will be considered. It is our hope that we can fill these slots with representatives from these types of libraries and locations. However, we occasionally have openings due to job changes that require us to fill other slots on short notice from all types of libraries.

Executive Board activities include participating in monthly Board meetings, representing MLS to local member libraries, and advocating for the services and staff at MLS. The board benefits from those who are familiar with and use the services MLS provides, are willing to learn more about how MLS works with partner organizations, and can contribute to the continued success of our organization and our staff. A commitment to understanding the needs of various library types and locations is essential for our board members.

The MLS Executive Board governs the fiscal and policy affairs of the organization. It typically meets for three hours, twelve times a year. Most meetings are held at the MLS headquarters in Marlborough and a few meetings will be held at our Northampton office. The option to attend remotely is available; however, in-person attendance is strongly encouraged. We traditionally invite incoming members to an orientation meeting in December, prior to their taking office.

If you are interested in serving on the Board, please complete the online self-nomination form by 5:00 p.m., Friday, July 19, 2019.

Please contact the Nominating Committee Chair, Amy Lewontin (A.Lewontin@northeastern.edu) if you have questions.  MLS bylaws are available at www.masslibsystem.org/bylaws.
