Library Director - Sutton Free Public Library
Responsible administrative work involving the direction of a broad range of public library functions
Example of Duties:
Plans and
supervises the operation of the library, working with the Board of Library
Trustees to develop library policies, goals and objectives
Develops
an annual operating budget for approval by the Board; presents budget for
consideration of town officials; administers appropriations approved by Town
Meeting
Applies
for grants; implements and administers grant funds
Directs
all personnel operations of the public library
Oversees
all library functions
Ensures
that library services meet the needs of the community as well as all
federal, state, and local regulations
Directs
the development and maintenance of the library's collection of materials
Prepares
statistical reports on library service for the Board, town and state
Promotes
library services to the community
Utilizes
effective public relations techniques and media to publicize library
activities
Attends
regional, state, and national meetings and conventions; serves on
professional councils and committees
Represents
the library at meetings of Finance Committee, Board of Selectmen, and Town
Meetings
Attends to
the physical needs of the library building
Performs related work as required
Job Environment: Typical library environment
Basic Knowledge and Experience: Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited college or university; Massachusetts certification; three years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience
Desired Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the principles of library science, organization and functions; thorough knowledge of library administration including fundamentals and budgeting; ability to analyze and solve problems; excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, subordinates, associates, officials, and the general public; computer skills essential

Salary: 35 hours per week with benefits; Town of Sutton Classification and Compensation Plan: Grade M-3
