The Massachusetts Library System (MLS) has earned accreditation from the International Accreditors for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) for its Learning Services training program.
IACET maintains an internationally recognized standard for quality in continuing education and training. MLS is the first state library system in the country to earn this accreditation.
As an IACET Accredited Provider, MLS offers IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for its learning events that comply with the ANSI/IACET Continuing Education and Training Standard.
“IACET accreditation is a major milestone for our organization,” said MLS Executive Director Sarah Sogigian. “We’re proud to provide member library staff with excellent learning opportunities that develop their skills and support strong library service across the Commonwealth.”
MLS-developed training and courses that meet the standard can now offer IACET CEUs. When member library staff successfully complete these learning experiences, their certificate or digital badge will document learning awarded through an accredited continuing education provider.
This gives MLS learning added value for professional development records, workplace learning requirements, and future career opportunities.
This accreditation process asked us to show how MLS identifies member needs, designs learning experiences, delivers instruction, assesses learning, evaluates results, and makes improvements over time,” said MLS Learning Experience Program Manager Hillary Washburn. “It reflects the care our department puts into creating learning experiences that are accessible, well designed, useful, and responsive to Massachusetts library staff.”
