On behalf of the Massachusetts Library System (MLS), I want to take a moment to celebrate National Library Workers Day by recognizing the dedicated library staff throughout our state. Through their work every day, they ensure members of their communities are equipped with the resources they need to succeed.

Every community is made more vibrant because of its library. Thanks to thoughtful and passionate library staff, residents have a place to read, learn, and connect with others. MA library staff serve as trusted resources who are always ready to lend their support with anything a patron may need.

Whether they work in a public, special, academic, or school library, library workers strive to provide equity in their services. They ensure that there is always something for everyone at their libraries. Through careful and thoughtful planning, trained staff offer programs and services to all community members. And if people can’t make it to their library, workers use bookmobiles, mobile libraries, and other outreach methods to make sure libraries meet residents where they are.

Despite the many challenges to libraries in recent years, library workers guarantee access to the information our residents want to know about. Intellectual freedom is necessary to support an informed society, and library staff work tirelessly to safeguard people’s right to learn.

Thank you for making our libraries special!

Sincerely,

Sarah Sogigian
